Training ambitious healthcare AI models comes with a very practical constraint: compute.

Following its allocation on MareNostrum 5, [HaloScape](https://haloscape.health/) has now also been granted access to LUMI, the EuroHPC supercomputer operated by CSC in Kajaani, Finland.

For HaloScape, RealWorks Global's flagship health intelligence platform, access to both systems significantly expands the computing resources available for AI model development, training, and validation.

## Two of Europe's Leading Computing Systems

LUMI delivers 379.7 petaflops of measured HPL performance and has become an important part of Europe's AI research infrastructure. More than half of its computing resources have been used for AI-related research and innovation. The system is powered with renewable hydroelectric energy at CSC's Kajaani data center.

HaloScape's LUMI allocation will support AI model development across its clinical and consumer technologies, including training and validation work behind HaloXRgCT.

It follows an earlier national allocation on MareNostrum 5, hosted by the Barcelona Supercomputing Center.

MareNostrum 5 has a peak performance of 314 petaflops and was established through EuroHPC with Spain, Portugal, and Türkiye participating in its original consortium. Today, the BSC AI Factory initiative also brings Romania into the collaboration around the infrastructure.

## More Compute, More Room for Research

HaloScape's MareNostrum 5 allocation is being used for HaloXRgCT, the platform's most ambitious research model to date.

Infrastructure at this scale changes the development process in concrete ways. Training runs that would otherwise consume significant time and resources can be executed at a different scale. More model configurations can be tested. Validation can go deeper before research moves into the next phase.

This matters particularly in healthcare AI, where model development is only one part of the work. Systems also need to be tested across complex datasets and evaluated rigorously before they can move closer to clinical use.

Access to LUMI and MareNostrum 5 gives the HaloScape research team more capacity to pursue that work.

## Expanding the Research Foundation Behind HaloScape

At RealWorks Global, we have been building HaloScape with research infrastructure that can grow alongside the ambition of the platform.

As HaloScape develops larger AI models and expands its clinical research, the computing requirements increase with it. Securing allocations on two major European supercomputing systems gives the team considerably more room to train models at scale and move research forward faster.

For us, that is the significance of these allocations. They expand what the HaloScape team can realistically build and test over the coming year.

We would like to thank EuroHPC Joint Undertaking and CSC – IT Center for Science for enabling access to LUMI.

We also thank TÜBİTAK for Türkiye’s role within EuroHPC, and the Barcelona Supercomputing Center for the infrastructure and research environment around MareNostrum 5.

More from HaloScape as the training and validation work progresses.
